Minimum Contribution Thresholds

Most states require registration from nonprofits that solicit contributions in the state. This is true whether the organization asks for contributions from individuals, corporations, foundations, governmental agencies, etc. However, most states only require registration from organizations that receive above a certain threshold of contributions. These thresholds are based on total contributions, not just contributions within the state.

Alabama: Registration is not required if national contributions are below $25,000.
Alaska: Registration is not required if national contributions are below $5,000.
Arkansas: Registration is not required if national contributions are below $10,000.
California: Registration is not required if national contributions are below $25,000.
Colorado: Registration is required regardless of total contributions received.
Connecticut: Registration is not required if national contributions are below $25,000.
District Of Columbia: Registration is not required if national contributions are below $1,500.
Florida: Registration is required regardless of total contributions received.
Georgia: Registration is not required if national contributions are below $25,000.
Hawaii: Registration is required regardless of total contributions received.
Illinois: Registration is not required if national contributions are below $15,000.
Kansas: Registration is not required if national contributions are below $10,000.
Kentucky: Registration is required regardless of total contributions received.
Louisiana: Registration is required regardless of total contributions received.
Maine: Registration is not required if national contributions are below $10,000.
Maryland: Registration is not required if national contributions are below $25,000.
Massachusetts: Registration is not required if national contributions are below $5,000.
Michigan: Registration is not required if national contributions are below $8,000.
Minnesota: Registration is not required if national contributions are below $25,000.
Mississippi: Registration is not required if national contributions are below $4,000.
New Hampshire: Registration is required regardless of total contributions received.
New Jersey: Registration is required regardless of total contributions received.
New Mexico: Registration is not required if national contributions are below $2,500.

North Carolina: Registration is required regardless of total contributions received.
