There are approximately 35 states which have laws governing fundraising counsels. Most state laws require registration prior to commencement of a charitable campaign. Numerous counties and cities also have such laws. Failure to register in a timely fashion can lead to fines, civil suits, and states revoking the right to function as a fundraising counsel.
