Massachusetts Fundraising Registration Requirements

Massachusetts law requires that charitable organizations and institutions that solicit contributions in or from this state register with the Office of the Attorney General. The Massachusetts law governing charity registration is found in 950 CMR 113.00: Mass. Business Corporations Act G.L. 156D and 180; General Laws Ch. 12 and 68.

To register in Massachusetts:

Complete the Charitable Organization Registration Statement and mail to:

      Office of the Attorney General
      Division of Public Charities
      One Ashburton Place
      Boston, MA 02108

Initial Filing Fee: $150

Requirements: Governing Documents, IRS Form 990 and Financial Statement

Annual Renewal: Yes

Annual Renewal Fee: Sliding scale fee up to $2,000

Extension Available: Yes

Does charitable registration require Corporate Registration: No

Does charitable registration require a Registered Agent: No
