West Virginia Fundraising Registration Requirements

West Virginia law requires that charitable organizations and institutions that solicit contributions in or from this state register with the Secretary of State. The West Virginia law governing charity registration is found in WV Code Ch. 31E and Ch 29-19.

To register in West Virginia:

Complete the Charitable Organization Registration Statement and mail to:

      Secretary of State
      Building 1, Suite 157-K
      1900 Kanawha Blvd. East
      Charleston, WV 25305

Initial Filing Fee: $15 or $50

Requirements: IRS Form 990 and Financial Statement

Annual Renewal: Yes

Annual Renewal Fee: $15 or $50

Extension Available: Yes

Does charitable registration require Corporate Registration: No

Does charitable registration require a Registered Agent: No

West Virginia offers Educational, Hospital and Religious Exemptions.
